Abstract
The current paper explores issues around developing curriculum for learning and teaching of an Indigenous Australian language. The project is developing Central and Eastern Arrernte language and culture curriculum. The focus of our paper is to discuss 1) how we worked with the community and language speakers to develop linguistic and cultural contents for tertiary students, 2)how we addressed and negotiated protocols to protect and share the Arrernte
knowledge, 3) community engagement benefits and potential opportunities for participants involved, 4) challenges of establishing multi-mode of learning and teaching materials – moving from oral tradition to non-traditional mode of online teaching and learning for the Arrernte people.
