Abstract
A personal reflection by Ailsa Purdon about her family's experiences in the 1960's around the lead up to the 1967 Referendum to change the Australian constitution - a change that ensured Indigenous Australians were included on the cenus, and given the right to vote.

| Additional Information: | Ailsa Purdon is a senior lecturer (education studies) at Batchelor Institute. Non-indigenous, she was brought up in rural Queensland. Her first significant experience with Indigenous people was as a neophyte teacher in Kowanyama. She has lived and worked with Indigenous people since then (nearly 30 years) and believes that decolonisation is as much an issue for non-Indigenous people as Indigenous. |
