This chapter explores: the idea of 'freedom' and how it relates to journalism ethics and law; the relationship between the public right to know and the individual's civil liberties; humanitarianism and international connections between the Australian media and its publics; Wikileaks and the rise of 'hacktivism', and why this is now being called 'terrorism'; the role of social media in the Arab Spring, and what this means for journalism ethics.
