Abstract

The Learning at Work Book concept arose from a need to address a chronic under supply of early childhood educators in remote Indigenous communities in the NT. To address this need, Batchelor Institute of Indigenous Tertiary Education (BIITE) sought funding from the Department of Education and Training(NT DET) to develop a culturally appropriate, literacy enhanced and cultural and context responsive training delivery tool. In collaboration with project collaborators (See Appendix A), the project team created two linked workforce development projects - the Learning at Work book (LaWB) and Technology,Reading and Early Childhood Services (TRECS). Both projects were funded under the NTER Quality Teaching Package. This report focuses on the Learning at Work Book.
The overall aim of the Learning at Work Book Project was to provide a new approach to strengthening the existing early childhood education workforce in remote communities (with a priority focus on local Indigenous staff) to improve Indigenous learning outcomes through the provision of additional training, professional development and incentive opportunities.
